Ledger.com/Start®: Getting Started With Your Ledger Wallet (Without the Setup Headache)
Setting up a hardware wallet for the first time can feel overwhelming. Between seed phrases, PIN codes, and app installations, even confident crypto users can hit snags. But if you start at the official Ledger.com/Start, you’re already on the right track.
This guide walks you through the Ledger wallet setup process step by step—with tips to avoid the most common mistakes.
Step 1: Visit the Official Setup Page — Ledger.com/Start®
Before you do anything, head to the official site:
➡️ Ledger.com/Start
This is your safest source for downloading Ledger Live, the companion app that lets you manage your crypto securely.
✅ Why it matters: Phishing scams often copy Ledger's website. Using only the official URL ensures your funds stay safe.
Step 2: Download Ledger Live
Choose the version of Ledger Live that matches your operating system (Windows, macOS, Linux, iOS, or Android).
- On macOS: drag it into your Applications folder.
- On Windows: run the installer.
Then, launch the app and click “Get Started.”
Step 3: Set Up Your Ledger Device
Once you’ve selected your Ledger model (Nano S Plus, Nano X, etc.), you’ll be prompted to either:
- Set up as a new device, or
- Restore using an existing recovery phrase
For most new users, you’ll create a brand new wallet.
🛑 Important: As you go through the setup on the device itself, you’ll be given a 24-word recovery phrase. This is the only way to recover your funds if your device is lost or damaged.
Write it down on paper and store it offline in a secure location. Never type it on a computer or phone.
Step 4: Choose a Secure PIN
After writing down your recovery phrase, the device will ask you to create a PIN code. This protects the device from unauthorized access.
💡 Tip: Choose a PIN that’s not easy to guess—but easy enough for you to remember.
Step 5: Install Apps for Crypto Assets
Open Ledger Live, go to the Manager section, and install apps for the cryptocurrencies you plan to use (e.g., Bitcoin, Ethereum, Solana).
Each app takes up a little space on your device. You can uninstall and reinstall them later without losing access to funds.
Step 6: Add Accounts
After installing apps, go to the Accounts tab to add your crypto wallets.
Each account generates a receive address, which you can use to accept funds.
🔐 Always verify the address on your Ledger device screen before sharing it. This step prevents malware from substituting your address.
